The Need in Alabama
Alabama faces high rates of youth homelessness, teen pregnancy, and generational poverty. Pregnant and parenting youth ages 13–21 are particularly vulnerable, often experiencing family rejection, school dropout, trauma, and lack of access to health care or stable housing. Immigrant and trafficked teen mothers face even greater risks, as they are often isolated by language barriers, cultural disconnection, exploitation, and fear of seeking help.
These challenges are even more compounded when young mothers are placed into foster care. According to Alabama DHR, approximately 6,000 children are currently in foster care statewide, yet there are very few licensed placements equipped to house both a young mother and her child together. Most foster homes are not prepared to support the dual needs of a parenting teen and her baby, leaving many separated and making reunification rare and difficult. This lack of options intensifies trauma, disrupts bonding, and creates long-term barriers to stability and independence for both mother and child.
Finding H.O.P.E. fills a critical gap in services by providing housing with embedded education, parenting support, and mental health services—creating a safe, trauma-informed environment where every young mother can heal, grow, and build a pathway to independence.

Our Approach
At Finding H.O.P.E. Children’s Home, we are committed to providing more than shelter—we create an environment where young mothers and their children can heal, grow, and thrive together. Our program is designed to meet the whole person, addressing the emotional, physical, educational, spiritual, and practical needs of each resident.
Our approach is grounded in the principles of trauma-informed care, positive youth development, and the nurturing of parenting skills for teen mothers. These guiding values ensure that every aspect of our program not only provides safety and stability but also empowers young mothers to recognize their strengths, rebuild trust, and gain the confidence needed to raise their children with love and resilience.
